Michael was born on July 23rd, 2008 with profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Micheal wore hearing aids from the time he was 4 months old until the day of surgery. We decided that we didn't want anything to hold Mikey back from living as close to a normal life as possible even having a hearing loss so we moved forward with cochlear implants. I have created this page for friends and family to follow Mikey's progress and for parents that may be in the same situation we were with making this desicion. I found it very helpful to look at other parents blogs/pages for their children when we were making one of the hardest choices of our lives. Thanks for reading.

Speech Therapy 3/17/2010

Mikey had his best therapy session ever! Mikey was doing the hand motions to "wheels on the bus" he said "bye bye" clearer then ever. He picked out the animals and toys that Beth was naming such as fish, car, snake, cow, sheep (and says "baa" for sheep) :) He is doing great with his "ling" sounds (which is the most important of the sounds for a deaf child to learn) He was doing the "ssss" sound, he was going "whooo" when they were doing bubbles and everything! He is continuing to do wonderfully with following directions and listening. I don't think it really amazes me as much as it should because I have seen my little boy accomplish things that should have been months down the road. I was sitting there watching him doing his therapy with Beth and I was almost in tears, my little boy is talking! and making sounds! Who would have ever thought just 3 months later he would be almost caught up with other hearing children his age. It is days like these that make you feel great as a parent and help you to know you made the right choice. :)
